Love your stories Robin. here is one of mine. When I was in my late 30's, I quit my job on the spot and unclear what to do next, took a year off to do the backpacker/hostel around the world thing that I had skipped in my 20's. When I was in a Singapore doctor's office dealing with an on the road malady, I met some other US travelers who were headed to a Buddhist monastery in southern Thailand that opened its doors for a 10 day silent meditation retreat at the first of every month. As there was no internet or cell phones or really phones in general, you just showed up and hoped there was still an open spot. Since I had never meditated, I thought it would be a good way to learn - an interesting pattern in my life. When I got there I found out that we slept on concrete beds, had a strict routine from 5 am to 9 pm and that silent retreat meant that except for the teachings, there were no words, no reading, and no writing. Just 10 days with yourself. I struggled for 5 days before I found a place of no thoughts, just being. Changed my life.
I love you and your words my amazingly talented friend 💋
Thank you so much for the shout-out and kind words about my work, Robin! I'm in great company here. :)
